The Mercedes-Benz Community Service Committee announced today that it has launched GREEN+Kids, a first-of-its-kind environmental education program for children in the lower grades of elementary school.
GREEN+Kids, which is conducted by the Mercedes-Benz Social Contribution Committee in collaboration with the Children and Future Foundation, is part of the carbon-neutral environmental program 'Mercedes-Benz Green+,' and was designed for the first time this year as an experiential eye-level education program for children in the first and second grades of elementary school to easily understand the dangers of climate change and learn the importance of carbon-neutral practices.
Green Plus Kids is planned to be held sequentially throughout the year with a total of three modules, including carbon neutrality, climate action, and experiential education. The education will be conducted through audio-visual materials such as storytelling play-based foldable hands-on creation kits and stickers to meet the needs of children. The materials were created in collaboration with Play 31, an educational content development company that develops children's environmental education and resource circulation experiential education content centered on the Sustainable Development Goals and has been designated as a UNESCO Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Certification and an Excellent Environmental Education Program by the Ministry of Environment.
The first training will be held for teachers from more than 134 organizations and schools and more than 2,520 individual participants who were accepted through pre-registration earlier this month, bringing the total to more than 5,000 children who will receive Benz's new environmental education. The Mercedes-Benz Committee for Social Responsibility is also accepting additional applications for organizations and schools that wish to participate in the carbon-neutral training, which will be available on the official GreenPlus website from the 7th of next month.
Thomas Klein, Chairman of the Mercedes-Benz Committee for Social Responsibility, said: "We are committed to a sustainable future for children. As a responsible corporate citizen, Mercedes-Benz will continue to systematically educate the children of tomorrow to help them realize the seriousness of climate change and to develop valuable habits to protect the environment."
